Do you mean that you are able to run alsa as modules ?
I am running alsa as modules with 2.6test9. As a matter of fact, I have had a small problem with alsa recognizing the fm port on my AWE64, and have replaced the included .9.7 alsa with .9.8, and last night with the cvs version. Modules are still working fine (though my FM port still has a problem, works with .9.0rc7)
I never succeed and get unknown symbols error messages, and have to compile alsa in the kernel !
Something is wrong. I got my sources and precompiled kernel from pub/people/kraxel (though I have long since blown away the precompiled version).
At the 4th line of /var/log/boot.msg I get : no module symbols loaded : kernel modules are not enabled ! Do you have that? if not is it due to kernel.org modutils ?
That sounds to me like the kernel config. Run make xconfig in your 2.6 source directory and make sure it is setup correctly. a snippet from my 2.6 config:
# # Loadable module support # CONFIG_MODULES=y CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD=y CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD=y CONFIG_OBSOLETE_MODPARM=y # CONFIG_MODVERSIONS is not set CONFIG_KMOD=y I maybe should add I am using the modutils for 8.2 from the same kernel source as above. HTH
Thanks for reply, My .config file is exactly like yours, I tried once again with kraxel kernel with the same result. All modules will load, except alsa !!! Did you check your /var/log/boot.msg file in order to see if you have the same message than me ? I would appreciate if you could do that and send me your full .config file. I don't understand, the alsa entries in modprobe.conf are the same than yours. BUT I use gcc3.3.1 could it be the reason? Thenks for your help. Michel.
