Try a different controller and maybe another terminator. If possible you could try the external connector of your Adaptec controller, it should only be UW-SCSI, not LVD. That would probably reduce the bus speed to ultra scsi.
I think it isn't the hardware because I got the same errors with:
1) AHA19160 Ultra SCSI SE HVD, DLT 7000 SUN SE HVD Fast SCSI.
2) QLA1280 automatically autosets for the drive connected, Quantum DLT 7000 Fast SCSI Diff HVD
And I used on Irix that QLA1280 with that DLT without problems. But I'm a litle new with linux, so I'm not sure if the problem is the st module, mt or what.
If you are using the same controller with the same DLT drive then it should work. Do you perhaps have any other scsi devices on that controller? Here's the /etc/stinit.def, that I used: /etc/stinit.def: #-------------------------------- manufacturer="QUANTUM" model = "DLT7000" { scsi2logical=1 can-bsr auto-lock=0 two-fms=0 drive-buffering=1 buffer-writes read-ahead=1 async-writes=1 can-partitions=0 fast-mteom=1 # # If your stinit supports the timeouts: timeout=3600 # 1 hour long-timeout=14400 # 4 hours # # Drive is backwards compatible, use older modes (e.g. from above) as required. # mode1 blocksize=0 density=0x85 # 35GB + compression mode2 blocksize=0 density=0x84 # 35GB, no compression mode3 blocksize=0 density=0x83 # 20GB + compression (DLT4000 mode) mode4 blocksize=0 density=0x82 # 20GB, no compression (DLT4000 mode) } #-------------------------------- Sandy -- List replies only please!
