I have (literaly at 23:15 local time Sunday) just finished configuring a HP Netserver E60 which has one of these devices installed. I used SuSE 7.2 and it worked out of the box. It configures as /dev/ht0 and works perfectly. One thing that is most important is that you use 32k block size. The script I have written to back up via cron.daily contains the line as follows: tar -cv -b 64 -f /dev/ht0 /public (where /public is the directory I am backing up). The -b 64 sets up the block size. If you are using a 2.2.x kernel it will have to be patched with the correct drivers. I am installing this beast in my clients office tomorrow morning @ 09:00 having removed NT 4 - gone and truly forgotten!!!!!!!

I'm thinking about getting a tape drive for my system. Although I use a CD-R to backup my personal data it's not an ideal solution.
I've had a look at the OnStream 30GB tape drives and they look pretty good (alas I can't afford the SCSI version). Is anyone using an OnStream tape drive? Any comments, alternatives, or suggestions?
Thanks for the information. Is this the standard 30GB IDE drive or the new FAST version? M
