Hi everyone,
I am using opensuse 10.3 on a laptop, but I never figured out what the best way was to configure power management. Most of the time, the laptop is connected to the power cable, but since a few weeks I go to my work by train, which means that I can use my laptop for about an hour, in case I get bored. However, of course there is no power connection in the train (not even in the 1st class!!), so I have to use the battery.
But, before I arrive at the final station, within an hour, the battery complaints about being empty, and if I ignore that message, and continue to work, the laptop turns off. That's weird, because my colleague has the same laptop, running Windows, and his one continues for over 1,5 hours. I don't know how long exactly, but I know that an hour is very short.
That's the story, I hope someone can help me out with tips to let the laptop live longer.
Current KPowersave configuration: AC Scheme: Performance Battery Scheme: Powersave
Performance: Specific Screensaver settings: Disabled Specific display power management: Disabled Autosuspend: Disabled CPU Frequency Policy: Performance
Powersave: Specific screensaver settings: Only blank the screen Specific display power management: - Standby after: 2m - Suspend after: 3m - Power off after: 5m Autosuspend: Suspend to Disk after 30m (scheme-specific blacklist enabled) CPU Frequency policy: Powersave
My laptop is a HP Compac nc6220. If you need any more information, just give me a sign :-)

What is the processor?
It's an Intel Pentium M 1.73Ghz.

run lsmod |more and look to see if p4_clockmod is loaded. If not, use yast --system --- edit system -- kernel -- modules to load at boot and add p4_clockmod to that line. If you open kpowermanager you should be able to see the cpu changing frequencies and stepping down when idle. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
