I have a Word .doc file that OpenOffice 3.2 (openSUSE 11.2) will not open. It claims that it is 'corrupt', and offers to repair it. But the repair fails. The .doc file is a zip file containing:

I looked around for a tool (in OpenOffice, I would imagine) that might provide a detail as to why the document is bad. Since I don't know what I am looking for, I may be looking in the wrong place for such a tool.
There is no "tool" in OOo that will do something like this.
The document is from my daughter's school. I am not sure what version of Word they are using. But I do know that Word can open this document. If I look inside these files, I see in the docProps file this:
<Application>Microsoft Office Word</Application> <AppVersion>12.0000</AppVersion> <DocSecurity>0</DocSecurity>
This looks suspiciously like a docx file, not a doc file. Is it possible that OOo is trying to convert it from doc binary instead of converting docx? Have you tried renaming to docx, or forcing OOo to open it as docx? I have no idea if it'll work, but worth a try. MS Office 12 is MS Office 2007.... this is the first version of MSO that supported OOXML (ie docx).
