In konsole enter "xhost +" as a user, this will allow you to connect to the xserver, then when you su, you can do things as root. You can put "xhost +" in a /home/user/.bashrc file, so it will be executed from the kdm login as a user.
I strongly suggest you *never* do this. It *severely* weakens the system's security. Just use sux. Only if sux doesn't work use "xhost +localhost" but don't use "xhost +" (especially in a networked environment). -- A.M.
