I've started the setup system ..loadded the SCSI drivers from the Yast
(manual installation) menu) and then have made a alt+f3 or f4 i can't

so now i'm on a root shell..but i cannot mount the /dev/sda3...
it should be already mounted?

Nope, the rescue system isn't loading the megaraid driver I bet. Try lsmod from a command prompt to be sure. That's why I suggested running the installer again, so you could manually select the module and be sure it was loaded before you dropped out to a command prompt. Chances are the rescue system won't have the module to load, either...

Hello i've installed Suse 9.1 Personal on an HP Netserver.. In order to install i've started manually installation and load megaraid-old scsi driver for the disk controller..after that the installation started..copyed all the files to the system..untill the firsr system reboot... after the reboot...the system hangs with this error: scsio: sym.2.1.18i Vendor Hp Model C5683A Loading kernel/fs/reiserfs/reiserfs.ko Waiting for device /dev/sda3 to appear:...not found..device/nodes: warning: can't open /etc/mtab: no such file or directory VFS: Cannot open root device "sda3" or unknown-block(0,0) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic: VFS : Unable to mount root fs or unknown-block(0,0)
What Can i do? It seems that the modules for the scsi disk are not loaded Any tips -- Alan Civita
Boot from the CDROM, select the Installation routine again, and when you get to the screen that has all of the installation settings (Packages, Boot Loader, Time Zone, Partitioning, etc., etc.) use ALT-F9 (or any other Fx key that gets you to a root command prompt).
You can use the pico editor to take a look at /etc/sysconfig/kernel.
My guess is that the initrd line is missing the megaraid driver module. If so, then when the installer ran mkinitrd, no module was compiled in and so the system can't find the boot disk.
If this is indeed the case, then all you need to do is add the name of the controller module to the line, save the file, and run mkinitrd. Then, when you reboot the system the installation should proceed normally.
Here's the line from one of my machines: INITRD_MODULES="dpt_i2o reiserfs"
Hope this helps, Mark
