Can anyone provide an answer, please, to what the future of KDE is considering that gnome has gone #3 but will not be used in such a distro as Ubuntu, to be replaced by Unity. And I don't know what the future holds for openSUSE.
What's the future of KDE in openSUSE, will it remain and be in place for at least several years or be replaced with something like Unity or Gnome #3 in the foreseeable future or within 6 months time (whichever comes first)?
Why are you asking this question on the user support list? All you'll get on this user list is conjecture and speculation. Of course if you ask it on opensuse-project you'll probably get answers from some of the same people (like me) with our contributor hats on, but the discussion will be more valid. Oh and a reminder to old hands and KDE lovers here: the project is a do-ocracy - those who do things set the agenda, and the status quo is not fixed.
(Reason for asking is that I don't want to invest time and effort in getting KDE in 11.4 configured only to find that KDE will be replaced with something as unproductive as gnome 3 or Unity.)
If you identify some results of this investment that would be generally useful to all KDE users out of the box, please share them with us on the opensuse- kde@opensuse.org list.
