At first I checked mtab after recently learning the "stat xyz..." meant rpm couldn't find something it thought was mounted. mtab had nothing on .gvfs. The forums held the workaround:
The safest is to just ignore it. Installation will succeed despite of that error message. It's just that rpm stats all directories to have the status should the package want to install into it.

This .gvfs issue has just bitten me because the backups of my new 11.1 system have stopped working. I use dirvish for all my systems and rsync is now saying: rsync: readlink_stat("/home/dhoworth/.gvfs" (in root)) failed: Permission denied (13) rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c(1397) [generator=2.6.9] So I can't "just ignore it". A little googling has shown me several threads explaining the problem and some possible workarounds: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=534284 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=560658 https://bugs.launchpad.net/altlinux/+source/gvfs/+bug/225361 http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Fedora/2009-07/msg00653.html et seq This seems like a complicated issue with the potential to cause a lot of irritation. Does anybody know the current state/prognosis? Or the best workarounds?
