I have a SuSE 6.3 Linux box. I want to turn it into a full multimedia linux box. For this purpose, I am planning to use: a Web Cam: Kodak DVC325 Digital camera, and a Mic Can somebody tell me if SuSE Linux supports this type of Web Cam, and what main procedures are necessary for both recording video and sound.
The last I heard, the only Web cam that was supported under Linux was the Phillips Vesta Pro. most manufacturers aren't releasing the specs for the camera, so people can't write drivers for them. The Vesta Pro is the exception, because someone liked the camera so much that they agreed to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Admittedly, my information may be out of date, but that was the last I heard. As to getting the camera working, I think all you need is the appropriate driver (e.g. the Vesta Pro driver) and then use the standard bttv type programs. I had a go at getting it working a while back, but since I only spent about 5 minutes on it I didn't get very far... I think I'll have another go in a couple of weeks. Here's the link for the driver: http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/ Hope that helps, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
