repeat question : how to install SuSE 7.0 from a directory
Date: Sat, 2 Dec 2000 08:07:33 +0100 From: amircea@libertysurf.fr Message-ID: <20001202080733.A374@libertysurf.fr> Subject: repeat question : how to install SuSE 7.0 from a directory (asking once again) Hi, venerable SuSE specialists, I can install from the CDROM, but when I transfer the content of the first 7.0 CD in a directory of an existing 6.4 system and thereafter try to install 7.0, on another hard disk on the same machine, selecting from the yast menu "install from a directory", it does not work. The message is that yast does not see what is in the directory. I tried several ways - e.g., with the directory mounted or unmounted, but the message is invariably the same. How can it be done ?

I have a SuSE 6.3 Linux box. I want to turn it into a full multimedia linux box. For this purpose, I am planning to use: a Web Cam: Kodak DVC325 Digital camera, and a Mic Can somebody tell me if SuSE Linux supports this type of Web Cam, and what main procedures are necessary for both recording video and sound.
The last I heard, the only Web cam that was supported under Linux was the Phillips Vesta Pro. most manufacturers aren't releasing the specs for the camera, so people can't write drivers for them. The Vesta Pro is the exception, because someone liked the camera so much that they agreed to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). Admittedly, my information may be out of date, but that was the last I heard. As to getting the camera working, I think all you need is the appropriate driver (e.g. the Vesta Pro driver) and then use the standard bttv type programs. I had a go at getting it working a while back, but since I only spent about 5 minutes on it I didn't get very far... I think I'll have another go in a couple of weeks. Here's the link for the driver: http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/ Hope that helps, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\

I suppose I should add that the Philips is a damn good camera, too - I've used one myself. So not only is it supported under Linux, it's also one of the better examples! Bye, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\

Make sure to copy the "hidden" dotfiles as well - they contain vital information.
