What an excellent post. Open and honest without getting nasty. Nice one. I think it speaks for all those who are aghast at the poor release that 10.1 is. I'm not speaking from personal experience so castigate me if you wish. I was going to try 10.1 but with so much negativity I shalln't... for a while anyway.
I shall be getting a copy of 10.1 later in the week but onyl because it comes with Linux Magazine. I shall probably wait a month or so before installing for some decent updates to be made available.... unless I feel heroic :-))))
I'm not giving up on SuSE though.
Glad to hear it! I've been reading some of the negative comments re v10.1, but I have to say that apart from one problem (a bug I believe) in YAST when trying to test printers, I have had no problems. I have installed v10.1 on an Athlon 2200XP box and on a IBM Thinkpad T21. On the Athlon box, I've got my internet/email access working. TV/radio and CD playing are OK. I've been doing quite a bit of photographic image downloading and processing via Gimp (ufraw is great for handling RAW files) and some admin work via Open Office. I've been using Kstars (a planetarium app -- part of the kdeedu package) and have used this on the laptop to drive my astronomical telescope mount. The compilers (gcc/g++) seem to work OK. There's still lots to try out, but no problems so far. For a desktop I reckon v10.1 is good. Can't speak for sys admin types. Have a good holiday.
