[opensuse] KDE desktop crashes after long period of time (>24 hrs)

Hi I am using my openSUSE 12.3 x86_64 box with KDE to run some long simulations. The program is started in a terminal window and it runs smoothly, but I have noticed that after long period of time the KDE desktop crashes, however the terminal window is still in place and my simulation is unaffected. Also, KDE desktop seems to be able to restart, but the functionality is no longer the same, so the only way is to reboot the PC.
