Im running wget to download the patches that YOU uses to update my SuSE 8.0 boxes. I thought this is a better solution then having 3-5 different computers going out to the FTP servers separately. It works great. But...
One solution is to check out fou4s as an alternative: http://fou4s.gaugusch.at/ Or apt4rpm: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/
Every time I want YOU to update my computers I have to change source. On the server, where the update files are, I change to "hard disk" and then enter the directory. On the clients I change to "Network" enter the address to the server and the directory.
Is there a way to reconfigure YOU so that I don't have to change the path to the update directory?
Look at /var/lib/YaST2/install.inf and /var/lib/YaST2/installmap.ycp I have my machines set up for a network install over NFS. Here's the relevant fields from my install.inf: [snip] Alias: eth0 natsemi <---- client Ethernet module HasPCMCIA: 0 InstMode: nfs Netdevice: eth0 IP: 172.16.0.4 <----- client IP Hostname: 172.16.0.4 Broadcast: 172.16.255.255 Network: 172.16.0.0 Netmask: 255.255.0.0 Gateway: 172.16.0.2 Nameserver: 172.16.0.2 Server: 134.76.13.21 <----- server IP Serverdir: /suse/8.0/i386 <----- installation directory Manual: 1 [snip] Check out this article: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/lmuelle_suselinux_internet.html It doesn't explain the format of the install.inf file, but if you do a SuSE installation from scratch it will more or less create what I've shown above.
And if it's possible to stop YOU to go out to get a list of FTP sites it would also be a good idea because I don't need it.
/etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate YAST2_LOADFTPSERVER="no" Good luck, -jrh
