I had a very funny portmap problem after I installed 9.1 on three different machines. I would get the following message everytime I booted: Starting RPC portmap daemonportmap: fork: Success..failed The boot process would hang there or on mounting NFS shares from my network. It would hang for 1/2 hour. The problem went away when I did an online update via YOU. I don't know what patch fixed the problem. Maybe an update of some packages would help your portmap problem. Gus.
