Ummm...okay, heh...what's FAM, and is it really okay to leave it 'off' all
FAM is the file access monitor daemon, it keeps track of files and directories changes for applications that uses it. You can turn it off with the run level editor. To tell you the truth, I have never notice any lost in functionality having it off. After taking a closer look, it seem like one can also set a timeout in /etc/sysconfig/fam.
