A couple weeks back I added a new HD and installed 9.0 on it for a friend's daughter (12 Y.O.) who is absolutely delighted with it and not looking to boot into the windows side again IF she can get connected to the internet with Linux. Problem is that she needed a new modem (real modem - that problem fixed over the weekend) but the ONLY source they have where they live is AOL.
This is highly unlikely. There are many dial-up ISPs offering service regionally or nationally.
Not being familiar with AOL, can someone give me some advice that I can share with them as to how we get them on line with the modem and AOL. I'm fairly sure I know the modem part, but it's the AOL portion with which I don't have a clue.
Unless she is wedded to AOL, have her switch to a different ISP. You can likely find good dial-up service for $10/month. AOL is currently being sued in Ohio http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20031028-091623-9773r.htm for making account closures difficult, so have someone assist her if she decides to switch. I have personally of such practices from several acquaintances. If she wishes for some peculiar reason to continue to use AOL, that is most easily done with a Microsoft WIndows operating system - not Linux.
