Still stuck =(
I'll repeat once again :)
Update kernel, install 1-click drivers, and follow the instructions posted on the link that was given before(disable Xgl, add couple of things to xorg.conf), you possibly cannot go wrong.
With compiz*-0.7.4 you can launch it using fusion-icon, compiz --replace ccp or compiz --replace core glib gconf. No other environment variable or option is required.
Cheers

I have done exactly as you describe. I haven't tested with 7.4 yet, but the command line I posted is/was required to start compiz on my box at least through 7.2 due to ATI driver issues.(8.47 is the current fglrx driver version) I'll pair down line 36 of /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/FusionIcon/data.py which currently reads: compiz_args = ['--replace', '--sm-disable', '--ignore-desktop-hints', '--no-libgl-fallback', '--indirect-rendering', 'ccp'] to see how few arguments are needed now for a certain compiz start. As far as the required xorg changes, see: http://www.3111skyline.com/download/linux/compiz/xorg.conf.compiz.20080221 Pay particular attention to: Section "Device" BoardName "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (M10/M11 4E50)" Driver "fglrx" Identifier "Device[0]" <snip> Option "EnablePrivateBackZ" "no" Option "backingstore" "true" Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" VendorName "ATI" EndSection Section "ServerLayout" <snip> Option "Clone" "off" Option "Xinerama" "off" Option "AIGLX" "True" Screen "Screen[0]" EndSection Section "DRI" Group "video" Mode 0660 EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "DAMAGE" "true" Option "Composite" "true" EndSection Good Luck ;-) -- David C.
