HI all: I have checked and I have a swap partion in the file system. The boot messages are failure to create swap devices due to being unable to read swap signature. When I go to Kdiskfree it shows shmfs as a 250.7 mb partion mount point being /dev/shm. However under type it shows a question mark. My quess is for some reason it the install did not properly create the swap partition. My question is; Is there anything I can do now to correct it easily? Or since the system seems to run with the more then occassional lockups when moving large files around, maybe I should wait for SuSE 8.1 and install it to correct the problem.
shmfs is a shared memory file system. It is not swap. swap space is hard disk space to be used when the RAM memory fills up. Using RAM memory for swap is a contradiction in terms. If your swap partition won't mount you could try running "mkswap /dev/hda2" followed by "swapon -a". If nothing else it should give you some informative error messages (hopefully). //Anders -- 'Deserves [death]. I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life.
