As you guessed, it's an RFC issue, Internet domains, which is the sort of domain in question here, cannot contain an underscore character, only alphanumeric characters and hyphen IIRC.
doesn't it accept a domain with an underscore '_' This is a valid character in networking names and it is something which is needed, as our network domain name has such a name!
