so I checked my logfiles and the longest line I found was 4189 char long (http://preview.tinyurl.com/6n63us). I set the buffer length to 5120 and then I managed to get it all processed without any "buffer overflow" error.
What I wonder over most is why no one else hit this issue???
One reason could be, that AFAIK not all Linux distros compile with -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 by default like we do. Without such runtime checking, buffer or stack overflows can go completely unnoticed.
