Usually the ball is easy to just pop out of the holder. It certainly was in the Marble FX and the M575, and the Kensington too.
I have long since switched to a Kensington trackball, "Expert Mouse". I think it was recommended by someone here on the list.

The wired version: (a wireless trackball seems ridiculous idea to me).
At home my computers are so far from my working position that wireless is the only practical way. It's either that or USB extender cables.
