I think the idea is that with so many people moving to LCDs, and since LCDs run best at their native resolution, that the devs are trying to make things simpler. Unfortunately, that wouldn't help me with my 2 19" CRTs. I run them at 1024x768, but I always get 1280x1024 which I don't care for on my desktop.
