Answering my own post with the solution...
Adding user, i.e. VBOX_AUTOSTART="lampbox;carl" fixed the error

Hi All,
The host system is openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 GNOME, all updates
I want the Virtualbox VM that I've created (it's name is "lampbox") to autosave and autostart gracefully with the host.
I've enabled 'vboxes' in YAST2 System Services (Runlevel) to start in run levels 3 and 5
I've confirmed that I am a member of the "vboxusers" group.
I created the file /etc/sysconfig/vbox as follows:
# Virtual box machines to autostart # Example to start 2 machines # VBOX_AUTOSTART = "MachineName1 MachineName2"
VBOX_AUTOSTART="lampbox"
As the subject lines says, invoking 'rcvboxes start' yields this error:
Starting Virtualbox machines: lampbox (user: ) Virtual machine: lampbox: VBOX_USER not configured
I tried adding "VBOX_USER="carl" to /etc/sysconfig/vbox and no change
What am I missing?
