Did anyone already try ADSL with SuSE Linux? Or know what is required? According to what I've heard, the Danish telecom will install an ADSL box that talks ATM, so there has to be an ATM card in the Linux box. But why can't the ADSL box talk Ethernet?
ADSL works with Linux. I haven't tried it with SuSE, but I do know of people that have gotten it to work. I've been wanting to get it and myself. Here is a site I found while researching: <A HREF="http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/ADSL.html"><A HREF="http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/ADSL.html</A">http://metalab.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/mini/ADSL.html Here in the states, what usually transpires is a technician is sent to your house to setup the machine (install a NIC if you need one, setup the xDSL modem and such). There were reports on a local newsgroup about how some technicians would refuse to setup ADSL on a Linux box and even how the support people would refuse to continue talking to anyone who said they were running Linux at home. They were requiring people to run Windows or they would not sell them service. The company doing this has gotten into a big mess with Linux users bombarding them and complaining to the Better Business Bureau, etc. (And the temp. fix was to setup a Win machine, let them install it and then disconnect everything and hook it up to the Linux box: all you need is their DNS entries, etc. and the modem they supply plugs into your NIC.) Good luck and I hope the HOWTO offers some info. you can use. ulysses@firinn.org "You've got to understand their market has always been the Windows space, where you're actually doing people a favor by charging them money for things, because that's the only way to keep from confusing them.
