On my older PC I have downloaded and installed all patches for my SuSE8.1 using YAST2 Online Update. Now I have installed SuSE8.1 on my new PC. Is there a way I can take the files from my old PC and use those to install the updates on my new PC? It would save a tremendous time in downloading all the patches over my 28k modem. Where are the files after they are downloaded and installed? I never checked the box 'remove files after installation', so they should be some where.
Yes, they are in /var/lib/YaST2/you/i386/update/8.1/ You have to create a local mirror or a patch CD. This is documented in the Unofficial Suse FAQ. Create a dir, for example /usr/local/update/, and in it copy the files from i386 and down, so as to have /usr/local/update/i386/update/8.1/. Then export /usr/local/update, and give it to YOU. Download (rsync of ftp) the whole /usr/local/update/i386/update/8.1/patches/ from Suse. Read the faq for more details, or ask me some other day :-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
