The desktop comes up perfectly. But when I start tuxracer, my screen goes blank and my monitor goes into standby mode. The music is playing, so the game should work well. Pressing Esc ends the program and the monitor is going live again, displaying the desktop.
It seems like 3D acceleration is the troublemaker. Any ideas for a solve?
Recheck your monitor frequencies in /etc/X11/XF86Config. Tux Racer is in 640x480 resolution. It sounds like the frequency range chosen is out of range for your monitor. You could correct it in that file, or Sax2.
There is also the file ~/.tuxracer/options where I changed the default 640x480 to 800x600 because of this problem. It worked for me. My normal screen is 1600x1200 16-bit.

Thanks for the tip. Tux is now going downhill majestically in 1280x1024! Evert
