John-- Are you compiling from source, or do you want to install a prebuilt binary? I've never installed a binary, but I've compiled probably a dozen or more copies of Apache on SuSE 9, and I've never had any problems with it -- it should be a snap. If you want to install PHP as well, download them both and go through the procedures in PHP's INSTALL file -- they will help you install both. You can install Apache without PHP if you want, though. Without PHP, it will be one of the easier compilations you'll ever do. You could probably just use Yast to install a binary, though, but I don't know if that will get you the latest version.
