I actually was using the -multi flag, I read man cdrecord and HOWTO CDWriting, but for some reason when I mount the CD there's no "2nd file (135MB, tar ball) there, only the 1st. BTW, if you or anybody knows about any problems with a ZIPCD 650 CD-RW, please let me know. Thanks a zillion, Alvaro
I have not tried this, but I just read it in the docs. You say you got no replies before, so maybe this information will be useful to you.
The feature of writing to a CD multiple times is called "multisession". Not all CDROM drives can read multisession disks, but most modern ones can. Certainly your burner can read them. Here is the relevant section from teh cdrecord man page: -multi Allow multi session CD's to be made. This flag needs to be present on all sessions of a multi session disk, except you want to create a session that will be the last session on the media. The fixation will be done in a way that allows the CD-Recorder to append additional sessions later. This is done by generation a TOC with a link to the next program area. The so generated media is not 100% com- patible to manufactured CD's (except for CDplus). Use only for recording of multi session CD's. If this option is present, the default track type is CD-ROM XA mode 2. The Sony drives have no hardware support for CD-ROM XA mode 2. You have to specify the -data option in order to create multi session disks on these drives. As long as cdrecord does not have a coder for converting data sectors to audio sectors, you need to force CD-ROM sectors by including the -data option if you like to record a multi- session disk in DAO/SAO mode. Not all drives allow multi- session CD's in DAO/SAO mode.
To my memory, there is a limit to the number of sessions a CD can have (I think it was under 30, but I could be way off. Either way, the burner needs to create a large gap etween sessions for some reason.
There is a tremendous number of resources for CDR and CDRW at the Adaptec web site. They also run several CDR mailing lists. Here is the URL of their encyclopedia page for Multisession http://www.adaptec.com/support/faqs/multisession.html
If these files are small, and you want to add them often, I would write them to a directory on your hard drive and use a CDRW to back up that directory when you want to. CDRW disks are good for about 1000 writes, so maybe you should get another one every other year ;)
Hope this helps.
