Actually it's not - not for the problem you described wrt the winmodem. A corporate executive does not get to see his laptop until it works perfectly. His paid Linux support-staff will have 1) installed OpenSUSE and 2) then installed the binary-only drivers. No problem - same procedure for Windows.
