Surely. Your base system needs to be likely uptodate, else you get a message that you need to boot from external, and you have no button to continue. It works from 10.0 to 10.1-beta3, and if you are lucky it will work from 10.1-betaX to 10.1. But it did not work from 9.2 to 9.3, and neither from 9.3 to 10.0.
