I have a Compaq 1260 Presario laptop which has the opti chipset requireing the opti621 module to let it use dma. Since 2.4.19 that module has been missing which means I have to recompile the kernel. I had been using Mantel's kernels and recompiling went slow but worked. So I try to use a 2.6.4-34 kernel recompiled to include the driver and 6 hours later, on reboot the module is not installed. I try modprobe opti621 and i get the error message that that file does not exist. I look in /usr/src - - - /drivers/ide.pci and there is the opti621.o and opti621.0.cmd and the opti621.h. On all the 2.6.5 kernels I have tried-about 6 so far-, recompiling gets the jpb done. I'm afraid that when I get version 9.1 I'm going to have the same problem, again. Can anyone tell me what I can do to see that that module is installed? Isthere any way to get SuSE to pu that module back in the default kernel? Filing feedback did not seem to get any help from SuSE. Surely I'm not the only fool out here using the compaq laptop on suse linux. BTW, the Knoppix cd runs, and installs on this machine and dma works fine. Richard
