I think competition has something to do with it. If you read in the press about the new Mandrake release some people say it eclipses SuSE 7.1 because it has more up-to-date packages. SuSE response? Release a new version with more up-to-date packages and hey presto! they are top of the heap again (from the reviewers limited point of view). Release often. Isn't that the Linux philosophy?
