Hi all,
as holiday season approaches rapidly, it get reminded to get my navigator-maps up-2-date.
googling i noticed that tomtom has a "stange relationship" with opensource community, eventhough they use the code internally, when needing to update, you need a M$ or a fruitcake-machine.
I also found that people where unsuccessful using the update-tool under wine.
Like many other people, i'm rather ahppy with the TT-device, and i have absolutely no objections for paying map-updates, but refuse to buy&install windows in order to install latest maps.
Any guru around that have a working solution? It seems they (TT) published they code (due to GPL) on http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/gpl/
Hans.
The only "solution" I can offer is: Do you have a neighbour who uses Windows and ask him/her if you could it to update the maps? Or, how about a friendly shopkeeper in your local shopping centre? Almost all of them use Windows for their cash registers and they all have broadband - so ask one of them? (Or, if you are game enough :-) , go into a computer shop and pretend to look at the various computers for sale :-) . Now that you have got me wound up, your local library will have Windows running computers; and you also have the choice of using one of those Internet Cafes...)
