I would think this to be one of the most essential operations, specifically for messages that are not filtered into folders automatically.
b) move one mail from INBOX to subfolder under Local Folders works. Also Ctrl-Z.
Here it doesn't. With drag and drop it doesn't. I can make a video, perhaps.
I'll take your word for it, but that indicates some problem in your environment. Your provider perhaps ?
I don't know, I don't remember it working. I can try with GMX. [...] Wow, it worked. ?? Ok, I got it working on Telefonica as well, I found the correct mouse movements to do it. I have to slowly move around the mouse at the destination folder till it highlights, then release the mouse. There is another operation that I tried to do the other day. I opened another Thunderbird window, and I open the source folder in one (say A), and the destination folder in the other window (say B). Drag and drop selected messages from A to B does not work. Ctrl-C in one, ctrl-v in the other, does not work. Or, I open the destination folder in another tab, not another window. Same issue.

That's where my Thunderbird buts the subfolder of the Inbox. Not right below the Inbox at the top. I can not use that setup.
I'm not sure I understand - are you unable to create a subfolder under Inbox? (I see several already). Is that a new TB, new icons ?
I can create a folder (that 'test' folder), but Thunderbird sorts it to another place (using "unified view"). It is physically under INBOX, but Thunderbird does not display it there. See the photo.
I have never used "unified view", mine seems to be "all".
Unified view is very useful when one handles several accounts. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
