Hi again Gary, Congratulations by your success on the NIC setup, downloading kernel modules and compiling the Kernel included. Gary Kline wrote:
Last night (with the help of a slightly more experienced Linux user) I rebuilt the kernel from 2.2.14 to 2.2.16. Because of eth0 configuration that I did entirely by hand, there were dozens of errors upon reboot. My 10/100Mb LinkSys NIC still works; so far, I think my SuSE box is stable... .
By editing /etc/rc.config most of the errors have gone away, but ones like these still clutter the console::

Can anyone tell me what's causing these errors|warnings and how to clear them up?
On SuSE 6.4 PDF book, under chapter 13 "The Kernel" it talks in 13.2 Kernel Modules about the issue. It states: Handling Modules [* depmod Creates the file modules.dep in /lib/modules/<version> where dependencies of all of the modules are defined. This is necessary to ensure that all dependent modules are loaded along with the selected ones. If START KERNELD is set in /etc/rc.config, this file is created each time the system is started.] If it does not work You could give a try to depmod, using info from "man depmod". But the chance of not working is not near INMHO, i think will be resolved on second boot after the START KERNELD solution, because it fires internally the _depmod_ util. Let's see...
thanks much,
gary
