YES dhclient in SuSE 6.2 never got me lease. The simplest fix for this is to download dhclient version 3, uninstall package dhclient of the SuSE distribution and compile/install version 3. Then simply run command 'dhclient ethx' instead of using the YaST setup. The network device still needs to be turned on during boot(I gave it a local address setup which gets wiped out as soon as dhclient ethx is run).
Does the dhclient that comes with 6.3 have the same problem? What script would execute "dhclient ethx"? If I tell Yast that eth0 is a local IP (let's say 192.168.1.1) then run dhclient eth0, don't I have to redo all my routes? That sounds very messy. Why couldn't I install with the included dhclient, letting Yast set up eth0 with it, then upgrade the package? Are the two versions so different the same calls would not work? ------------------------------------------------------------------- DDDD David Kramer http://kramer.ne.mediaone.net DK KD DKK D It is better to be defeated on principal than to win on lies DK KD DDDD Arthur Calwell -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
