If you use apt 0.5.5 that's correct. I use apt 0.4.5 from here http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/, synaptic works to from here. It's working for me with SuSE8.2 -- Gerrit Jan Eldering
SuSELINUX 8.2
Question: Doesn't YAST2 replace synaptic in 8.2? Meaning, I thought with the new YOU, there's no real need for synaptic.???

YOU is more save..... With Apt - Synaptic it's less saver, the updates there are not on YOU !!! The come later, after testing on YOU.

I thought one could configure YOU to include the locations that apt/synaptic uses. ????
Maybe. It depends have much flexibility you want. If you're happy with YOU it's fine, but if you want to easily obtain rpms from for example packman.links4linux.de, or pkgs that are provided by suse employees, you can't reach them with YOU. With apt this is possible. Another situation is where you maintain different distribitions. Apt can run on all of them, YOU only on SuSE. Having the same interface on different systems is quite handy. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
