I have just installed 9.2 onto a new system based in an intel mb running a 3Ghz P4 with hyperthreading. All detected ok and runs as SMP kernel but I have the following error being logged during boot:
<notice>run boot scripts (boot.clock) Setting up the CMOS clockmodprobe: FATAL: Error inserting hw_random (/lib/modules/2.6.8-24.5-smp/kernel/drivers/char/hw_random.ko): No such device
Old error, in suse 9.1. One solution is to add in '/etc/modprobe.conf.local': install hw_random /bin/true a better one is below. Here is the solution: The hw_random requires a RNG to be present in the intel 82802 chip, the problem is that the if the 82801 chip exists the it assumes that the 82802 chip is there, How ever on the intel 865 and 875 intel has removed the RNG from the 82802 chip, So after searching the script in the etc dir I discovered this baby. /etc/hotplug/blacklist at the bottom of this baby I put in this line: hw_random -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
