hello Steven
I'm not use to using ALSA to configure sound-card, but as I've been figthing for a long time to get my SB32pnp to work I can tell you how I got it to work.
First thing, it's an ISA pnp card so it must be initialized. (THE problem !!!) the problem for me was that the card was not initialized correctly so it didn't appear in the /proc
in your case the strange thing is that the card seems to be initialized but then declared as busy. Is ALSA conf using kernel pnp support or does it have its own pnp support ? (in which case may be you have to deseable the kernel pnp support, one of the pb I had with isapnp).
I'd sudjest you to read carefully one more time the requirements for pnp support for ALSA driver. And check if isapnp or the kernel pnp support doesn't interfere with ALSA pnp support.
good luck
Yann
Yann, You may well be correct. I thought about this same possibility. That is the kernel pnp. I don't know what to think about that. On would hope it wouldn't be necessary to recompile the kernel to get this to work. I don't have a *major* problem with doing it. I have done it several times before. I don't understand why the modules.dep has the reference to isapnp in the sbawe section. As I read the comments in the modules.conf, I don't need to run isapnp before loading the card modules. I don't know how to tell it not to run isapnp first. I guess I could hack the modules.dep, but that is very ugly.
