Heya, Sorry - I've just checked more carefully, and you're right. It's included in the shlibs package, which you obviously musn't uninstall! If no-one else provides a useful answer, though, you could as a last resort try moving the /usr/sbin/nscd binary to /usr/sbin/nscd.hidden, and then it can't be automatically run.
