Hello Linux folks. I'm thinking about buying a cheap IDE DVDROM but I'm not sure if I can emulate it as a SCSI device for using it with Xcdroast to burn CDs on another IDE CDRW. Are there any particular issues to configure DVDROM with Linux? Thank in advance for any help. Alex
I was in a similar situation and had no problem at all. I had an IDE CDRW and and IDE DVDROM, and after recompiling the kernel with scsi emulation i am able to recognize both as scsi without any problems. I have to say, though, that i have not tried to use my DVDROM drive as anything other than a plain cd-rom device. I only get to play DVDs in windoze (ugh!), but i will have to take a look at LinDVD and the others one of these days...anybody did already? how did it go? The only small issue i noticed so far is that somehow the CDRW got recognized as /dev/sr1 to /dev/sr7 and the DVD from /dev/sr8 above (i guess it has to do with the master/slave ide setup?), so i cannot use it as the 'Installation medium' from Yast because (at least in 6.2) it is limited to /dev/scd5 at maximum. Does anyone know a way around this? Of course i can use the CDRW as the installation medium but i guess it is slower.
