ISTR there were licensing issues with mysql that prevented this. I could be wrong, but I do know there was a huge discussion regarding mysql+php a while back, with the new mysql license
Wasn't that the other way around? PHP coders who were doing proprietary/closed stuff resented the MySQL license change to GPL, which meant their stuff had to be GPL too if it linked directly to it.
Hm, that does ring a bell.
Postfix is released under something called the "IBM Public License". Perhaps the issue then is that it isn't compatible with the GPL
I think the mayor issue here,is the feature that we lost. other distros like Trustix,Debian;Ubuntu,Centos(on contrib section) have alternative packages or simple a postfix-mysql.rpm "module".
