Hi list,
there seems to be a problem with the gnome-screensaver: on both computers (x86 and ppc) I have the problem, that after the gnome-screensaver has started and is running for a while, I can not stop it. My first test on x86 locks up the computer completely: I had to press the reset button. Currently the screensaver locks only the xserver: I can ssh to the computers or switch to console by pressing ctr-alt-f2 and back to x by pressing ctrl-alt-f7, but I can not stop the screensaver. If I kill the gnome-screensaver process via ssh, everything works fine again. The kde-screensaver has no problem.

FYI: I had this problem with Beta 2 and Beta 3. My screen would blank out (go black) and I couldn't get back to my desktop. My workaround was to kill gnome-screensaver, as root, from the console at tty1. With Beta 4, I could just tap a key or move my mouse and return to my desktop . My understanding is that was due to an interim patch. I updated the night before last to RC1 and I'm now prompted for my password before I can get back to my desktop. I thought it was all fixed, but I guess it'd be worth checking out the screensavers, too. - Carl
