All this past week, I have been trying to get dovecot to work properly. For some reason, it now wants to use the users home directory, instead of ~/mail. Dovecot.conf has the line mail_location = mbox:/mail. I have also tried with mail_location = mbox:/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:LAYOUT=fs. Despite this, the home directory continues to be used, with all the files and directories (including hidden) appearing in the email client. Why is this happening now? I have set up dovecot several times in the past and never had this happen. Is this someone's idea of a "feature"?
