Even with the mini CDs, the test applet reports that the _DVD_ is broken, having failed the checksum. With the DVD, I tried both DVD as source, and HTTP as source, and with the -NET, HTTP as source, and all failed in exactly the same place. I find it really hard to believe the media could really result in the identical problem each time after so many different tries and medias.
Try the media test in a running system and see what happens. Do you know the media is OK? Perhaps you got a bad batch. What about the burner?
And the reader on the G4?
The one used for all attempts up until a few minutes ago, manufactured January 2008, Sony NEC Optiarc DDU1615 DVD readonly. Changing to a 24X Matshita readonly CR-585 changed nothing whatsoever - YaST dies at at exactly the same place as every other attempt, with every media burned.
Mine is broken. I'm running suse 11.0 (very happily :) on this very G4. I had to install from an USB external DVD (a bit slow, but waiting a bit may be worth it :).
USB 1.1 would be painfully slow. You must be very patient. I have no USB anything to hold anything bigger than a 3.5" device, no firewire anything, and no SCSI cables or adapters that can match my available SCSI devices to the connectors on the Mac's SCSI HBA. Oh, and I also tried installing Fedora 9 via HTTP. It managed to create and format partitions before its (text mode) installer bailed. I would try 11.1 beta 3 ppc if only I could find an iso for it. -- "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry." James 1:19 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg.
