One more thing, in my etc/inittab, it has

what does the --noclear bit do ? I tried man inittab but it failed to shed any light on the affair.
--noclear simply means that the screen should not be blanked before you're prompted for a login on tty1. This is set on tty1 to let you look at the bootup messages before you log in (unless you use xdm or similar). The rest of the ttys do not have this, so they all start with a blank screen and they all blank the screen when you log out. Regards Ole -- Windows: Where do you want to go today?
