Is hotplugging all that is missing??
That is not that bad ;-) I also screwed that up and do not know
how to fix it. Howver I decided to live without it. Never use
the floppy!
Boot with your old kernel and everything should go fine.
you have the old kernel config in /boot/vmlinuz.config,
Did you get a copy of your old kernel?

OK I screwed up in an attempt to "optimize" a self-compiled kernel using Suse 8.2 pro. All works fine except hotplug fails to start. At this point I just don't have the time to learn how to diagnose and fix this. Sadly, before the recompilation I lacked the brains to backup the shipping 2.2.40-4GB modules. I have the original kernel.
How do I restore the shipping modules into /lib/modules?
TIA, Bernd
