Carlos, what exactly do you mean by "you can simply copy the image to a raw USB stick"? Essentially:

Refer to this for details: https://en.opensuse.org/Create_installation_USB_stick Sorry, this is the corrct link:
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick I asked the question because I have never attempted at putting the system onto a USB 'Schtik' but I have, of course, used CDs/DVDs for this

What you said above, ''dd if=image ...", I believe would merely copy the iso image to a USB stick -- which is what Carlos said to the OP to do -- but I have always _burned_ the image using 'k3b' to a CD/DVD so the copying bit intrigued me.
Now that I have read the URL you give above, I will create a bootable USB using 'imagewriter'.
Interesting discussion. But how to give advice to somebody who is still using Windows. They may be able to bun an ISO but how to prepare an USB stick?
Exactly what I had in mind when I asked the question. I think that everyone had assumed that just because the OP mentioned that he was using Ubuntu that he didn't need any further advice apart from where to get the Live discs.
