I've being waiting for the new 10.1 release to reinstall a laptop computer and regain access to my starts to Linux. Even as a freshman, the network installation option seems to me pretty convenient. But I'm not able to follow the instructions at http://en.opensuse.org/Released_Version#Internet_Installation to get the installation done.
I've download the ISO of the boot CD, reboot the computer from this CD and go through the first steps of the installation configuring my network card. But I never reach Yast, only some windows asking me about the protocol and server to be used. I haven't been able to get network install to work locally, though I've used

I have been able to get it to work. I used
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source ftp://suse.mirrors.tds.net/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source
Expect long waits and retries. But it does work. I used the mini ISO with the above.
I was referring to install from my own source. I have made the disks available on my own network via NFS. Always worked until now.
I finally downloaded the entire inst-source and non-oss-inst-source and
was able to install from them as well with NFS. But I did not try
the CD's or mounting them and installing. I know in the past when I have
had problems with CD images mounting them all in one directory worked. I
have not tried it with 10.1. So you may be right, I can't say.
